Privacy Policy
Effective date: November 1, 2026 · Last updated: November 1, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information ONYX (“the Bot”) may process, why it is used, and what choices you have. The exact information processed depends on which features a Discord server enables and how the Bot is configured.
1. Information ONYX may process
- Discord identifiers: user IDs, server IDs, role IDs, and channel IDs needed to identify users and configure server features.
- Moderation records: warning records, case details, action types, reasons entered by staff, and the IDs of the people involved.
- Community settings: welcome and goodbye settings, role-panel configuration, self-role settings, custom command content, and saved embed templates.
- Leveling data: XP totals and related information used for ranks and leaderboards.
- Automod settings: configured filters and any ignored users, roles, or channels supported by the installed version.
- Special-command settings: configured role IDs and authorized-user IDs for restricted commands.
- Optional Last.fm information: a Last.fm username if a user chooses to link an account.
2. Messages and logging
Depending on enabled features and Discord permissions, ONYX may process message content to detect spam, filter configured links or invites, award XP, or record message edits and deletions. If a server administrator configures a logging channel, relevant event details may be posted there. Access to those logs is controlled by that Discord server’s channel permissions.
Do not assume that removing the Bot deletes messages or records already posted to Discord channels.
3. How information is used
Information is used to operate requested Bot features, maintain moderation and configuration records, provide ranks and role tools, troubleshoot problems, protect the service, and support optional integrations. We do not sell personal information collected through ONYX.
4. Storage and security
The current ONYX project uses an SQLite database. Depending on deployment, its database may be stored on the machine or hosting provider running the Bot. The Bot operator should restrict database and hosting access, protect the Discord token, and maintain appropriate backups. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure.
5. Sharing and third parties
ONYX uses Discord’s API to function. If Last.fm integration is enabled and used, the relevant username or lookup information may be sent to Last.fm. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect users, the Bot, or its operators. Third-party providers process information under their own policies.
6. Retention
Records may remain in the Bot’s database until they are removed by an available feature, deleted by the operator, or removed as part of database maintenance. Data posted in Discord logging channels may remain there under the server’s own retention practices. Removing ONYX from a server does not by itself guarantee deletion of stored records.
7. Privacy requests
For a request about information associated with your Discord account or server, contact the operator using the details on the support page. Include only the Discord ID and details reasonably needed to locate the relevant record; do not send passwords, authentication tokens, or other secrets. Requests will be handled as required by applicable law and subject to legitimate operational or legal needs.
8. Children’s privacy
ONYX is intended for Discord communities. Users must satisfy Discord’s minimum age rules and applicable local age requirements. The Bot is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law.
9. Policy changes
This Policy may be updated when the Bot or its data practices change. The updated date will appear above. Material changes should be communicated where required by law.
10. Contact
For privacy questions or data requests, contact the ONYX operator through the support page.
